In the past, I've reserved metallics for holiday celebrations, but this fall, you'll be seeing shimmer and sequins with a futuristic edge (think YSL crystal over the knee boots). Though lately, I've been gravitating towards more basic pieces, I've found that any look can maintain a classic elegance with a few simple styling tricks.

1. Slicked Back Hair: I love tousled waves as much as the next girl, but sometimes the humidity doesn't agree with me. Styling my hair in a low bun is a great time saver in the morning and keeps me looking put together on the most humid of days. I've been especially inspired by bloggers like Chriselle Lim and Danielle Bernstein who sport the chic style on the regular.

2. Basic Silhouettes: Since this dress makes quite the statement on its own, I threw on a classic blazer to give the look a more casual feel. Want to mix it up? Try a white one like this staple piece by Vince Camuto.

3. Simple Accessories: I've never been huge on flashy accessories. Most days, I wear a watch paired with complimentary statement earrings. Hoop earrings are a great way to elevate your looks without going overboard. Plus, bold earrings go perfectly with a sleek low bun!

It's incredible how the right outfit can inspire my mood for the day. This dress and blazer pairing made me feel cool and creative for a day of window shopping on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Day-trips to Chicago are some of my favorite outings even when my hauls are minimal. Experiencing designer collections in stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus ignite style inspiration beyond the temporary rush of buying from  fast fashion retailers. These collections emphasize the art of fashion and embody a fantasy that I aspire to. Though Gucci loafers and Chanel slingbacks are out of my reach, seeing the craftsmanship and attention to detail inspires me to be even more creative with emulation of runway looks, and while "clothes aren't going to change the world[,] [t]he women who wear them will" -Anne Klein
